I have excellent parents who raised me in an awesome Christian home. Going to church and worshipping God was a huge part of our lives, and I grew up knowing a great deal about the Bible. After I left private Christian school in 8th grade, I entered public high school… which brought a whole new realm of challenges. Instantly my faith was challenged, as it became clear to me that being a “Christian” was certainly not the cool thing to be. I tried to be good for my parents during my freshman year, but starting in my sophomore year I began blending in with the crowd and my “faith” slowly turned out to be nothing important anymore. As sin dragged me down, I got involved with a group of kids who pressured me to try a number of things, which really hurt my body and my relationship with my family. After I graduated high school, my parents gave me the ultimatum: leave the house, or go to Word of Life. So I ended up here in the fall of 2009, angry at the world, angry at my parents, but mostly angry at myself for the way I had lived my life. Because of the awesome roommates God blessed me with and their Godly influence in my life, I surrendered to the Lord two months later. Since then my life has taken a HUGE change as, for the first time, I experienced true peace and happiness! I began growing in my personal relationship with my Lord Jesus Christ and striving to seek after Him and please Him in EVERY area of my life! I love working here for Word of Life, and God is teaching me new things every single day! Praise Him!
Hey my name is Amber Roman, and I am from Saint Petersburg, FL. I came to know the Lord as my Savior when I was 14 years at the Word of Life Florida youth camp. I grew up in a home where my mother is a believer and my father is not. When I went to Word of Life camp I saw that being a Christian wasn’t about going to church and being a good person, but it was about believing in Jesus Christ His death, burial, and resurrection. After coming to know the Lord as my Savior I began growing in my relationship with the Lord through a local youth group. I started working Summer Training Corps with Word of Life Florida youth camp during every summer of my high school years. I then went to Word of Life Florida Bible Institute and God began to grow in me a passion for the teens in the United States to learn what it means to have a thriving relationship with the Lord! I also did the second year program at the New York Word of Life campus to continue to learn how to have an effective ministry. Something that I learned my first year at the Bible Institute that has stuck with me is that Life is Ministry! Wherever you go, whatever you do is ministry. 2 Corinthians 5:20-21, Galatians 2:20.
I was saved as a young kid, my dad led me to the Lord, I honestly do not remember much about it. What I do remember is knowing that I deserved hell, but Jesus died for my sins, past present and future, and now He had already paid the punishment for them and I could go to heaven if I just believed that truth. It doesn’t stop there, He also rose from the dead 3 days later! This amazing truth is what you need to believe to be saved, and I did. Since then I loved going out and doing open air evangelism with my dad, even being so young I would go with an adult and talk to the kids while the adult talked with the parents. As I got into high school I got into some trouble and was very apathetic, not reading the word or doing anything to learn more about the Lord. Just living for myself. I came to the Bible Institute thinking I already knew everything about the bible and realized yes I was saved at a young age but I just mirrored what my father had taught me, and was just going through the motions. The Lord broke me and now I believe in Jesus Christ because of what He has taught me personally and my faith is my own!
Hi my name is Jessica Job and when I was six years old I accepted Christ as my personal savior at the Word of Life Family Campground. When I was in seventh grade I started attending a Christian High School, which I graduated from in 2008. After that I attended my first year of the Word of Life Bible Institute. It was during this time that I realized for the past 12 years I was living a very legalistic life style and I didn’t even know it. Things started falling apart because I was depending on my own strength and not on the Lord. It was not until that following summer I understood what it meant to be truly gripped by the grace of God. I was reading through Romans and the familiar verse Romans 3:24 finally became real to me, “Justified freely by his grace”. I, Jessica Job, am justified freely by God’s grace because of Jesus’ blood that was shed for me. I do believe that I was saved when I was 6, but I think that it was not until this point that it truly gripped me. I went to second year and the Lord taught me so much during this time. He placed a fire in my heart to reach the teens in the church of America. My heart’s desire is to see teens grow a deep, passionate love for God and His word and change this world upside down for Him.
